Heroes of the past
gehrke_test hat dies geteilt
I know, I read a book about her many years ago, had some fight with my brother who called them idiots for letting themselves killed for a lost cause.
Apart from the Weisse Rose movement there were quite a lot of others who resisted the Nazis. Christians, liberals, conservatives, social democrats, unionists, communists, anarchists etc. Thousands were sent to the nazi concentration camps or just executed. Some people learned a bit late, so they deserted from the fascist army. A not neglectable number even fought with a weapon in their hands against fascism, for example in the Spanish Civil War with the international brigades. Or in resistance movements in the occupied countries.

Yes, they were not the majority, but they existed and their heritage is one of the finest in German history.

Being an old fart I even was so lucky to meet some of them who survived. I strongly doubt that I could be as brave as they were - although they were just normal people and not born heroes.

Being a German one of my obligations is to keep that heritage alive. We rose our children in that spirit and looks like that this was successful.
thanks for sharing that.
Being a student of history, esp. WWII, I knew about the Weisse Rose and what happened. Brave young people indeed.
I had to look her up. Brave.
And definition for brave: being scared but doing regardless.
Her look reminds me of a current hero: Greta.
